Icarus Choreography Project Day 4

Sharing day!

Great job to everyone who shared the choreography they refined.  Here are some things that we, as a group, felt were effective at communicating the "Imprisoned" theme:

  • contrast in dynamics - slow and quick, strong and weak
  • contrast in size and levels, especially combined with tempo
  • contractions
  • walks on the side
  • breaking down steps into parts
Some suggestions to make your dance more interesting

  • use repetition
  • personalize your movements by adding unique details
  • think about what you are doing in the story
  • don't use "big chunks" of choreography from the class material - break it down
Continue to refine your choreography based on feedback.  Remember, when you write an essay, it's not always exactly right the first time!

ASSIGNMENT - write your choreography for "Imprisoned" as a narrative.

Example: I am sitting in a bathtub full of cold water and colored bubbles, shivering.  I reach out and take the soap with my left hand, and look at it suspiciously.  I furiously scrub at my arms, then my feet, then my face.  I am trying to get the blood off.  I stand up to see my face in the mirror, and walk closer to see if my face is clean.  I run my hands down my face, trying to wipe away the tears.

Be descriptive, and include every action and gesture as part of the story.

I will be working on editing the music for this section and posting it to the blog for you.  Keep your eyes open, or, better yet, sign up for email notifications that I have updated.

Have a great long weekend!
